Buy Direct from the Fishermen

The traditional small fisherman is a dying breed. The fishing business is dominated by big businesses, and the traditional approach of fishing and selling the catch to a cannery (which actually freezes more fish than it cans) is becoming less and less profitable for fishermen. The prices fishermen receive for salmon have hardly changed since the 1980’s but inflation has driven the costs of catching those fish dramatically higher, while at the same time retail prices of salmon have skyrocketed. Big business is making lots of money from Alaska fisheries, but the fishermen are being left behind. Fishing for the cannery is not nearly as profitable as it used to be, and fishermen need to find new ways to make fishing a viable livelihood. We hope Kodiak Rush is providing a model for other fishermen to follow, and we are doing our small part to revolutionize the fishing industry.
